OpenAI came to us with a site that couldn't keep pace with what they were building. As their research and products accelerated, the gap between what was shipping and what the world could see grew wider. The site needed to stop being a snapshot and become a system. One that's capable of launching new ideas, holding deeper stories, a cornerstone for special events and adapting to what hadn't been built yet.

The architectural challenge was the most interesting part, it was building a framework flexible enough to serve a product announcement and a technical safety paper without forcing either into the wrong shape. We developed a modular layout structure and a flexible editorial model that gave every page shared DNA while leaving room for genuinely different stories.

One of the more interesting creative challenges was finding ways to bring the ChatGPT product directly into the web experience where we blurred the line between marketing site and product. The composer at the top of the homepage, a floating ChatGPT prompt bar on secondary pages, smart search, and read-aloud on editorial content all came from the same question: what if the site didn't just describe the product, but let you feel it? Some of these shipped. Others we explored and held for the right moment.

In shaping the visual direction, we explored imagery that conveyed openness, imagination, and calm. Using DALL·E 2, we created motion-blurred floral artwork that emerged as the site's central visual motif where we introduced a dreamy, atmospheric quality while keeping the interface light and breathable. There was something intentional about using OpenAI's own tools to shape their visual identity. It felt honest to what they're building.

The result is a digital front door designed to evolve—scaling with pace and clarity, in step with the organization instead of lagging behind it.
